Write your whole class's report comments in minutes

Pick a level for each skill in a quick grid, and Adam Hale Report Writer drafts a personalised, repeat-free comment for every pupil from 39,611 checked sentences written for your curriculum. Edit, then copy, export to CSV or Word, or print.

Private by design: Pupil names never leave your device. The app runs in your browser; names, levels and comments are not sent to any server, and no AI service is called.

How it works

  1. Choose your curriculum and report. 23 report types across 9 regions: England, Scotland, Wales, Ontario, British Columbia, United States, Australia, New Zealand and International schools.
  2. Paste your class list. First names, with pronouns if you like ("Ava, she"). Nothing is uploaded.
  3. Pick levels in a fast grid. One drop-down per skill or subject, with a "set the whole column" row for speed.
  4. Get drafts for the whole class. Each comment has an opening, strengths, a next step and a closing sentence, with a character counter, a repeat check and "try another".
  5. Export. Copy all, download a CSV for your MIS, a Word document, or print the class to PDF.

What a draft looks like

Primary learning behaviours in England, standard length. "Ava": Key Stage 2 (Years 3-6), autumn interim report; Attitude and Engagement and Independence Consistently, Resilience Sometimes, the rest Usually.

It has been good to see Ava make a positive start to the autumn term, with focused work most of the time. Ava reliably reads written instructions on the board or on a worksheet and follows them closely, so very little time is lost. Ava listens attentively during whole-class teaching and readily offers thoughtful ideas in class discussions. Using self-assessment to name one mistake and how to fix it will help Ava see errors as useful steps in learning. Parents' evening will be a good chance to talk about how we can build on Ava's settled start.

Questions

Do pupil names leave my computer?

No. Pupil names never leave your device. The app runs in your browser; names, levels and comments are not sent to any server, and no AI service is called. The only files the app downloads are the sentence banks, which contain no pupil data. You can check this in your browser's network panel.

Is this AI?

No AI runs when you use it. The comments are assembled by rules from a bank of pre-written sentences: a strength for the skills you rated highest, a next step for the one you rated lowest, and an opening and closing sentence that match the overall picture. The sentences themselves were drafted with AI writing tools and then edited and checked; About explains exactly how.

How does it avoid giving two pupils the same sentence?

It drafts the whole class at once and never reuses a sentence while unused ones are left. Each comment shows a warning if a sentence is shared with another pupil, which only happens when a small part of the bank runs out (for example, many pupils on the same level in one subject).

Will it fit my school's character limit?

Type your limit and the app picks shorter sentences, then leaves out optional ones, until each comment fits. Every comment shows its character count, and you can edit any comment freely.

How do I get comments into our MIS or report system?

Copy each comment, copy them all, or download a CSV (one row per pupil) to import or paste. You can also download a Word document or print the class to PDF.

What does the free version include?

Everything except class size and bank size: up to 5 pupils per class, drafted from a free sample bank of 7,343 sentences. Pro unlocks the full bank of 39,611 sentences and the whole class.

How the sentences were made: they were drafted with AI writing tools to a detailed style guide, revised line by line in an AI-assisted editorial review, and machine-checked for grammar, spelling, pronoun agreement and repeated wording. Before publishing, the author spot-checked a sample of the sentences. Please read and personalise every comment before use.
